24 Mar 2005: Quartz Lead opens new factory in Iwaki City, Fukushima Pref.
- Entering the business of manufacturing and processing parts made of quartz -
Quartz Lead Co. Ltd. (Headquarters: Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture / President: Yoshimi Chiba), a wholly owned group company of Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kyoto, Japan), established a new factory in Iwaki City (Fukushima Prefecture) for the purpose of manufacturing and processing parts made of quartz, with that factory going into operation on April 11, 2005.
Due to its excellent chemical resistance and high chemical stability, quartz is expected to be used in a wide range of applications, and it is anticipated that this field of business will expand more and more into the future.
This new factory was established in order to manufacture quartz parts for the semiconductor manufacturing equipment, including chambers, tubes, and cartridges (cassettes), that are indispensable to the heat-treatment process used for the silicon wafers that form semiconductor circuits, as well as for the purpose of furthering that business field. This factory is also scheduled to undertake the cutting of the synthetic quartz ingots used in large-scale photomasks for liquid crystal flat panel displays, as well as to advance into fields that make good use of its microfabrication technology, such as medical treatment microchips made of synthetic quartz.
In addition to the industrial semiconductor field, by newly entering the fields of liquid crystal, medical treatment and biotechnology as well, this factory is expected to respond to various needs from the industries related to quartz in parallel with the quartz tanks for semiconductor manufacturing equipment that are produced at our Koriyama factory.
The Iwaki factory began service with a staff of 25 people, with sales of 800 million yen expected for the first year, and the aim of this new factory is 2 billion yen in sales with a workforce of 50 by fiscal 2010.
